About Jonathan
Born in rural Michigan to a blue-collar family, Jonathan was raised on the ethos of hard work, treating all people as equals, and communicating simply yet effectively. He later graduated from Michigan State University with a major in English and a minor in psychology.
Today, those roots serve as his greatest asset in the courtroom: a rare ability to translate complex legal jargon into a clear, relatable narrative that resonates with New Mexico juries.
Jonathan’s legal career began inside the New Mexico State Prosecution offices of Valencia and Bernalillo Counties in 2006. As an Assistant District Attorney, he gained an intimate understanding of the government’s playbook. Having seen firsthand how prosecutors think and build their cases, he developed the strategic insight that now defines his defense practice.
This experience taught him the most critical lesson in criminal defense: cases aren't won on what happened; they are won on what can be proven. Having seen the inner workings of the state’s strategy, Jonathan now exploits the gaps and procedural failures that most attorneys overlook.
With over 18 years of experience in criminal law, Jonathan co-founded the Peake Law Firm in 2010 with his wife, Vanessa. Focusing exclusively on high-stakes criminal litigation, his practice is defined by a surgical approach to evidence and a relentless defense of his clients’ rights. He combines aggressive courtroom advocacy with clear, honest communication about case strategy and realistic outcomes.
Recognizing that a legal victory in court is only half the battle, Jonathan launched New Mexico Expungement LLC in 2020 following the passage of the state’s landmark expungement law. As the founder of the only firm in New Mexico dedicated to clearing records, he ensures that his clients' past mistakes do not dictate their future potential.
Jonathan’s authority in the field is recognized by his peers and the next generation of litigators; he is a frequent guest lecturer at the University of New Mexico School of Law and a sought-after instructor for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars.
Fluent in Spanish, Jonathan provides high-level representation to a diverse range of clientele, ensuring no nuance is lost in translation. Alongside his wife — a dedicated family law attorney — Jonathan offers a formidable multi-disciplinary partnership. For clients whose lives intersect with both the criminal and family court systems, this collaboration provides elite advocacy in both arenas, ensuring every facet of a client’s life is protected.
From first-degree murder to complex misdemeanors, Jonathan Peake doesn't just provide a defense — he provides a path forward.
